The Holy Spirit is likened to fire. The Holy Spirit came, as promised by Jesus, to be our comforter, teacher and guide. The Holy Spirit is within us. He even prays for us when we have no words. Surely, that is the purest prayer.

Guyon leaves instructions on how to fan the flame with in:

• Come to God with faith

• Turn inward to where God dwells

• Set your mind on God

• Remain quiet

• As you sense the Lord's presence, rest

• When you feel the presence lighten, worship

• As His presence comes closer, be still once more

Guyon calls this the Second Level of Prayer.

There is no petition, platitude or complaint. The goal is simply to enjoy God.
