"Virtue starts to grow in a heart that desires the will of God." Fenelon
Rain. A blessing or a curse?
Depends on timing and amount.
Life giving timely rain is a blessing to all farmers. Deluge storms on early plantings destroys future harvests. A blessing. A curse.
Yet we, as followers of Jesus, are to:
"Adore, praise, and bless God for everything! See Him in all things."
The God of timely rains is good, helpful, and for me.
The God of the deluge is the same. But it takes faith and trust to see it and claim it.
"There is no longer anything truly evil in your life for God uses even the most terrible sufferings to work for your good because you love Him."
Once more Fenelon encourages us to give up all control of our will and conclusions based on our five senses. It takes Spirit sense to think of these troubles as blessings from the hand of a good God.
Fenelon gives practical advice:
"Do not resist Him as He works within you. If you feel resistance rising up inside of you, turn to Him and take His side against your own rebellious nature." (or unbelief - which is the same thing)
Affirmations, spoken out loud, is one way to align your spirit with God's will.
For instance, I struggle with a personal conclusion that tells me:
I DON'T MATTER
I brought this to Papa and asked Him what He thinks of me. He lead me to Isaiah 40:11:
"He will care for you as a shepherd tends his flock,
gathering the weak lambs and taking them in his arms.
He carries them close to his heart
and gently leads those that have young"
Papa says:
I AM A MUCH-LOVED CHILD OF GOD*
This is my daily affirmation. I also repeat it when things look dark, confusing and contradictory to God being good.
I use this declaration as a sword against thoughts of unworthiness, apathy and futility. I align my spirit with God's and thus have the power to:
"demolish every deceptive fantasy that opposes God and break through every arrogant attitude that is raised up in defiance of the true knowledge of God. We capture, like prisoners of war, every thought and insist that it bow in obedience to the Anointed One."
2 Corinthians 10:5 The Passion Translation
Fenelon continues to challenge us as he asks:
"How can you better glorify God than by renouncing your own desires and letting Him do what pleases Him?
Simple but extremely difficult. This requires dying to self over and over, in every area of my life.
If God is truly God, then I will see nothing but the hand of God ruling over all things in my life. Regardless of looking like a blessing or a curse.
And my response will automatically be worship.
"Open yourself to God without measure. Let His life flow through you like a torrent. Fear nothing on the road you are walking. God will lead you by the hand. Let your love for Him cast our the fear you feel for yourself."
* I made a 10 ml essential rollerball to support my affirmation.
