Today is Library Worker's Day. Talk about under cover heroes. Quietly, mostly alone, they sort, file, research, read, investigate, clean, and find whatever it is you're looking for.

During my Homeschool years, the Library was the ticket to the universe and the Librarian was our guide. I taught a lot of different unit studies. Once or twice a month, I and my four children, descended upon the library with lists in hand. Never once did we feel we were bothering or interrupting the librarian. She was gracious and helpful. She treated my children, and their requests, with interest and kindness. Truly she was working in a field she enjoyed.

Oola Field is your career or vocation. Whether you are a corporate executive, volunteer, or stay-at-home mom, your field typically takes up one third of your most precious resource: time. (Stay-at-home parents would argue it is closer to one hundred percent! ) So you would think most people wouldn't waste their life in a job they hated. Unfortunately, too often we settle for a day job instead of pursuing our dream job.

We should be grateful for the jobs we have, and we should show up with integrity, discipline, and a good attitude each and every day. But we don't have to resign ourselves to a life that is less than fulfilling.

Allow yourself to dream. What would you spend your time on if money wasn't necessary? Can you see a path toward that dream where you get paid to pursue your passion?

If you can, start making a plan now to get there. If you can't, find someone you respect in the field of your dreams. Maybe they wrote a book. Why don't you ask your local librarian?
