"In His presence, pain and sighing will forever flee away...suffer with simplicity and a heart full of love. If you do you will not only be happy in spite of the cross, but because of it. The cross which conforms you into His image is a consoling bond of love between you and Him"
Fenelon
Pain, suffering, sorrow.
No one wants to experience loss.
But it comes.
It comes like a silent thief; unexpectedly.
Jesus is not a stranger to loss. He walked the broken road. He felt pain. He suffered.
Not so we wouldn't suffer, but that in our suffering we could have hope.
Hope is like spider webbing. It's sticky. It looks insufficient yet bears much weight.
My hope in Christ is founded on the goodness of God.
My hope in Christ is shored up by the love of God.
My hope in Christ is secure by His sacrifice.
Daily I'm invited to share the cross of Christ. To carry it.
But the cross I carry isn't the one full of anguish, pain or separation.
No!
Christ already defeated death and hell on the cross.
The cross I carry is a reminder to the enemy of my soul that I belong to Jesus.
Through His sacrifice I am freed from the power of sin and death.
As I embrace and carry the cross it turns from a symbol of suffering into a bond of love. So I embrace the cross. I pick up the cross and I walk victoriously through the enemy's camp.
