"Once the heart has been gained by God, everything else will eventually take care of itself." Guyon
"Burdening the new Christian with countless rules and all sorts of standards does not help him grow in Christ. Here's what should be done: lead them to the inner knowledge of Jesus Christ...while labouring with his outward man, he would be renewed with strength in the inner man."
What a concept. Away with the Mosaic Law! Away with the Pauline standards! Teach Christians how to tap into the finished work of the cross, how to live in Christ, how to allow Christ to live in them. There would be no need for memorizing creeds and commandments. There would be no need to study and confess every sin listed in the Old and New Testament.
When I live in Christ, when I remain conscious of His abiding presence, when I rest in His presence, I live in wholeness and holiness. My whole heart, my whole mind, my whole soul, and all my strength is found in Him alone.
In Mark chapter 12 Jesus is questioned by a scribe, a religious scholar.
"Which commandment is greatest of all?"
Jesus answered him,“The most important of all the commandments is this: ‘The Lord Yahweh, our God, is one! You are to love the Lord Yahweh, your God, with every passion of your heart, with all the energy of your being, with every thought that is within you, and with all your strength. This is the great and supreme commandment."
Church, may we please return to Jesus? What if we spent the next six months studying, singing, preaching, praying, sharing only Jesus and His teaching? What would happen?
I believe He would be the conqueror. Not our our sin, He already conquered that. No, He would finally have won the ultimate prize. Our heart.
Capture My Heart
My heart
my inward parts
hidden
beneath flesh
and bone
sinew and nerves
is Your ultimate
conquest
Whatever I do
in word or deed
for the poor
or perhaps
in prophesy
if not done
from the depths
of You living in me
if not from the heart
from true charity
is a fallacy
Have all of me.
Capture
my heart.
