How does this picture make you feel?
Have you ever been caught in a small boat in a big storm?
One of my first traumatic experiences as a child was almost drowning. I was about eight years old.
Back then, when you disobeyed your parents and almost died, you faced angry parents, not therapy.
I was terrified of water for years. I had nightmares for years. And no one ever asked me if I was okay.
PTSD has been a part of my life for longer than I was previously aware of.
This picture represents PTSD quite literally. Unchartered waters.
I love this quote from the Two Listeners (a devotional from the 1930's).
"You are in uncharted waters.
But the Lord of the Seas is with you."
Uncharted waters: every morning I wake up, trying something new, facing physical, emotional, or spiritual hurt and/or growth, welcoming a new child or grandchild, a major life shift...
Thankfully, Jesus is my All in All. He is the Lord of the Seas! And He is with me in this boat called life. There is nothing I face that He has not navigated. He is a trustworthy Captain. I can confidently follow Him.
"Sing for JOY."
I love how Jesus gives me an action point. SING FOR JOY.
There are numerous studies over numerous years on the benefits of music. The point has been proved: scientifically, psychologically, physically and spiritually.
Try it next time you face uncharted water. Sing for joy that the Lord of the Seas is with you.
