Adventure Into God

"A close, intimate relationship to Christ should always be your soul's only purpose." Guyon

Relationships are tough. They take work. And they are seasonal. There is a spring, summer, fall and winter cycle to journey through. And not just once. Repeatedly. Truly relationships are an adventure.

Why I think my relationship to Christ should be different, I'm not sure. But it isn't. And it's not one-sided. Sometimes I act as if it were. For example; I stop talking, I stop asking, I stop pursuing. It's immature.

Fortunately God never leaves me. Not even when I ignore Him for days without number. He's where He always is. Quietly, patiently waiting for me to turn back to Him.

It's that simple.

Recognizing my pursuit of God isn't a journey to find God in some hidden place, rather an adventure into God, who dwells in me, is freeing. It frees me from the performance mentality. It frees me from all the self-improvement projects I self-impose before I even try to turn back. It frees me from keeping score of all the things I've done, good and bad, compared to what I deem earned from God.

The worn out adage: a journey of a thousand miles begins with the first step, still holds true. However, in God, when I finally turn back to Him I find that He has taken one giant step toward me.

Such is the tender mercy and loving heart of God.
