Content But Not Satisfied

"As long as you live by your old nature you will be open to all the injustices of men." Fenelon

There's nothing freer than an artist creating for the pure joy of the process. They aren't really even focused on the end result. They are lost in the joie de vie; passion.

If you silence the self-critic, you're able to ignore other's as well. Without the weight of opinions and critique, freedom reigns and contentment sings.

Being content, whether in our work, family life, or faith pursuit, is necessary to growth. Satisfaction, on the other hand can be an inhibitor.

To live satisfied, or worse, to settle, is stagnant. Life can't be sustained in stagnant waters. There must be an exchange. There must be movement. Dreams demand action or they are little more than fantasy.

Dreams, desires and passionate pursuits are healthy, with the right focus.

They can also have a dark side.

Fenelon warns, "If you live at the mercy of a crowd of greedy and hungry desires, then you will never find peace."

Desires that drive relentlessly, without ever experiencing moments of accomplishment, or contentment, are unhealthy. They produce an unbalanced life.

On the other hand, desires that push you out of your comfort zone toward a goal are healthy.

Be content in all things, be grateful, be generous. Just don't settle into the slow death of satisfaction.
