Tommy Tenny's book, God's Dream Team, teaches that unity is a concentric circle of many layers. The first layer of unity is between God and man. Until established there can be no true unity between man and man, beginning with the close family and rippling out to include all mankind.

Theoretically, we know that Christ made the way for God and man to be reunited. The way is open for an intimate relationship, as in Eden. But what does true unity with God look like? What is oneness?

Guyon states boldly, "All that is your doing, all that comes from your life, even your most exalted prayer, must first be destroyed before union can come about."

I can't pray my way to union with God. I can't fast my way. I can't sacrifice my way. I can't sing, or shout, or march, or blow a shofar into union with God. It is not a work of man. It is a divine act of God.

Prayer, fasting, worship, and acts of service prepare the way, but they are not The Way.

Waiting. Waiting in a state of pure contentment and peace. This is the position to receive.
