The Desert in My Soul

If you have pursued a consistent time set aside to wait on God, to pray, to listen, to be in His presence, chances are you've traversed the desert in your own soul.
Unlike the days of mountainous revelation and paradigm shifts, or the quiet contentment of valley lushness, the desert in your soul doesn't seem to have the fingerprints of God etched in the landscape. At least not at first glance. But He is there.
The dry days of feeling nothing in the desert stretch to the point of breaking. Where is the breath of Holy Spirit in your lungs, the lily fragrance wafting by, the pleasant rain to wash the dust from your shoes?
The dry times are necessary to wean us from relying on all the wonderful felt experiences. The desert teaches us to firmly stand on the bedrock of faith.
When on the mountain top we worship. In the lush valley, we praise. It's easy because we feel God.
The desert is where we learn to go from needing to feel God in order to worship to worshiping God from faith alone.
Faith He is. Faith He is good. Faith He is God enough for my need. Faith He is in the desert with me. That kind of faith is unshakeable.
Fervour has fainted
Passion has passed
Excitement has exited
Life abundant?
What's that?
All is dry now
Dust blowing in the wind
Hot sucking dryness
Pertrifying
My senses perceive this is now the truth
It is NOT, YOU are
As I press into
the desert of my soul
I find You an oasis
Again I am whole
