"Becoming perfect is to be totally devoted to God." Fenelon

A dog's love. Hard to find a better picture of devotion.

Is it easier for you to proclaim, "I'm totally devoted to God" or to say, "I am perfect as Christ is perfect" ?

We come again to a "Which came first, the chicken or the egg?" question.

Is my devotion to God a result of my perfection in Christ?

Or is my perfection in Christ a result of my devotion to God?

Paul tells us to 'work out our salvation' on one hand, and then, we are not 'justified by works' on the other.

And James pipes in with, 'Fatih without works is dead'.

It's easy to see how we get confused.

For me it has to start with position.

I am in Christ. Christ is in me.

But why? How?

Because Christ died in my place, and paid my debt, my spirit is resurrected to life, and restored to union with Christ.

I am perfect.

As the fullness of that revelation permeates my mind and soul, I respond in action. I desire to be Christ to the world.

I am devoted.

"Let go of the things of the earth so that you might belong completely to God. You need not give up everything entirely. When you already live a life before God, balanced with discipline, all you need is to let God's love direct and motivate you from within. Serve God in the place He has put you. Live with freedom, courage, and hope."
