"...satisfied only with Divine love and quiet in the presence of God." Molinos
The outward displays of God's love feed my soul.
The warmth of His love upon me
The glitter of dust sparkling in the light
The joy welling up in me
The peace that settles like a downy comforter
But the question Molinos asks is:
If these cease will I still love God, or will I run back to the world?
Molinos calls this the first level of interchange to Divine love. We are stirred to Christ mostly by those things which bring pleasure to us. He warns this foundation is shaky.
This is but a taste of Divine love. There is more.
The next level of interchange to Divine love is stirred by desire for more.
First, the believer experiences being filled with God. This is accompanied by a rejection of what the world has to offer.
Next, the believer experiences being so filled with God it can only be described as inebriation. There's such an overflow of God the believer cannot contain it. Here the believer is able to receive the fullness of Divine love.
The third stage is where all fear is cast out. The believer lives in such security they are willing to face anything for the Beloved.
"There is a sense, in this stage, that it is impossible to be separated from the Beloved and from His infinite treasure."
If one looks back at church history, starting in the book of Acts, and studies the radical behaviour and outlandish sacrifices of the early Christians, one has to conclude they lived their lives fully, not only desiring God, but knowing Him. Truly their security was in His Divine love.
