"Often what you offer God is not what He wants. He usually wants that which you dread giving Him. It is Isaac, the well beloved, that He wants you to give up." Fenelon
Loving God is sacrificial. Seeking a close intimate relationship, is dangerous.
God is demanding.
He is after is what comes between you and Him. But His love, grace, and mercy always rule. There is a greater plan.
The story of Isaac is a picture of God's redeeming love.
There's barrenness.
A promise
Waiting
More waiting
Frustration
Man taking things in his own hands
A reminder of the promise
More waiting
Promise fulfilled!
A demand to give the promised beloved back
Obedience
Heavenly intervention
Returning the beloved
Genesis 15-18,22
How often have I run through this script in my own life!
I've messed up many of God's promises by meddling.
But He always breaks through!
His promises cannot be held back, or compromised, because of my impatience.
He is a good.
Not just when the promise is fulfilled, also when He asks for the beloved back.
He's still good.
"And Abram believed the Lord, and the Lord counted him as righteous because of his faith"
Genesis 15:6 NLT
Faith; the assurance of things hoped for.
Faith in the goodness of God, binds Isaac to the rock.
Faith in the sovereignty of God, raises the knife.
Faith that God sees the heart, reveals the ram caught in the thicket.
Faith that God redeems all, unbinds the sacrifice.
Faith that God is Love, restores the promise.
"If you want to prosper and enjoy God's blessing, don't hold anything back from Him. What comfort, freedom, and strength there is when nothing stands between you and God."
