"There is little you can do for God; But, oh! You can love Him a great deal." Molinos

Molinos teaching on prayer explains two kinds; thinking upon God, beholding God.

The first is an intellectual ascent; God is above us, I fix my mind above and acknowledge and converse with God.

The second is an internal practice; quieting the self, looking inward, where God dwells, by faith and fixing the eye on Him.

The first is rational.

The second is rest.

Molinos urges the reader to 'lay aside the clearly defined intelligible and cast yourself into the bosom of a loving God.'

We need increasing faith:

  • Faith to believe there is a God.

  • Greater faith to believe He is all loving.

  • Still greater faith to believe He is approachable.

  • And the greatest faith to believe He holds us and we can rest.

Because works are tangible, they seem to be a better option for loving God. Most people, pouring out their life working for God, are pure in their efforts.

I judge no other's motivation but my own. However, like Mary, when I leave the busyness of daily duties and sit at His feet, I've chosen the better part.
