"Those who seek after a great deal of knowledge about the ways of God are really trying to satisfy their reasonings." Molinos
Molinos divides people's curiosity about God into two groups: Those who seek knowledge and those who seek discovery.
Knowledge is "the acquisition of information about God and acquiring information about the Scriptures."
Molinos calls these people 'nothing more than scholars."
He warns that they miss
seeing unknown realms
the hidden things of God
touching the joys which abide in the inmost depths of the believer
the throne of God where He communicates Himself
joining with God
On the other hand, he calls people who are running after God through encounters as 'The Spirituals'.
These, Molinos points out, "have some experiential exercise of having touched the Lord in a very real way."
This experience is considered a pre-requisite to searching out knowledge and doing a great deal of inquiring about such matters.
"It has become a maxim among those who follow the internal way: practice out to be laid hold of before theory!
"God intended that your faith not be established on man’s wisdom but by trusting in his almighty power...For we did not receive the spirit of this world system but the Spirit of God, so that we might come to understand and experience all that grace has lavished upon us."
1 Corinthians 2:5, 12
